Vernon Kay broke out in a fake Scottish accent during his BBC Radio 2 show on Friday, but found himself at the wrath of ITV star Lorraine Kelly
Vernon Kay was scolded by television icon Lorraine Kelly for his “incredibly offensive” fake Scottish accent.
Lancashire born Vernon was presenting on BBC Radio 2 on Friday morning when he decided to break out into a mock Scottish accent. In a message played out on air, Lorriane Kelly lambasted Vernon’s accent.
She said: “Vernon, what are you doing? On behalf of Vernon Kay I would like to apologise to all of my fellow Scots for that incredibly offensive stereotype.

“The Scottish accent is a beautiful thing that comes in many different varieties and not everybody sounds like Billy Connolly, but that’s okay because we love him. So, to the people of Scotland, Radio 2 would like to once again for Vernon Kay and please rest assured he is being sent on a 16-week accent awareness course.”
Vernon joked: “Oh, I’ve been told, thank you Lorraine.” While Ellie Brennan added: “You don’t mess with Lorraine.”
Lorraine wasn’t the only person who Vernon has found himself in hot water with lately. He revealed wife Tess Daly gave him a word of caution when he went into his garden shed recently.
He told Radio 2 listeners: “It’s so funny. Whenever I go in the shed, I pull out a power tool. Strictly Come Dancing’s Tess Daly’s always stood at the front door. ‘Now, just please be careful’. She knows what I’m like.”
It came as Vernon joked he hasn’t used a cement mixer. He feared he would find himself falling into the machinery and spinning around like he was in a washing machine.

Tess and Vernon met while they were both fledgling TV presenters in 2001. He then hosted Channel 4’s T4 and Tess on rival ITV’s SMTV. However, a romance soon developed between the pair, and they married in September 2003.
Tess and Vernon have however spent time apart in recent weeks, with the Strictly star flying off to Dubai to work on a photo shoot for her brand Naia Beach and Ireland to support mate Brian Dowling and his husband, Arthur Gourounlian, a judge on Dancing With The Stars. Vernon meanwhile has remained at home, enjoying a night at the BRIT Awards recently.
Speaking about the evening, he revealed that he’d found himself in front of a piano shop, saying: “I sat on a bench on me own opposite a piano shop, and they had a piano in the window that was, I think it was 35 grand. And I’m eating me kebab, sat opposite, thinking, ‘Wow, imagine owning a piano that’s 35 grand and you’re able to play it, as kebab gravy fell on the floor between me legs.”
He continued his anecdote by saying: “You know what I mean? I was like, ‘This is a great night’. I’m eating me kebab, imagining that I’m sat on the stool underneath a 30 grand plus piano, playing away to friends and family. Whereas, in reality, I was just that sad, lonely bloke contemplating what was going on at quarter past three in the morning on the Edgware Road.”
