Emmerdale fans expressed “hope” as they don’t want one villager to leave amid fears that they may be killed off in upcoming episodes.

Paula Lane joined Emmerdale in 2024 as she took on the role of Ella Forster. Ella found herself a job in the village after she stuck up for Mandy Dingle at a Veterinary Ball.

Paula entered the Dales after leaving Weatherfield behind after her Coronation Street character, Kylie Platt, departed after being murdered in 2016.

Speaking of her new role at the time, Paula shared: “I’m so excited to be joining the cast of Emmerdale. Everyone has been so welcoming and I can’t wait to start a new chapter playing the role of Ella.

“I’ve already heard there are big plans for her and I can’t wait to see her navigate a new life in the village and hopefully make some friends!”

In the last few weeks, viewers have watched as Ella struggled after her relationship with Liam Cavanaugh abruptly ended when he decided he wanted to pursue things with Chas Dingle instead.

During Tuesday’s (18th March) episode, Ella and Chas had a blazing row in the Woolpack after Chas accused her of bumping into her on purpose. In the next episode on Wednesday (19th March), Chas suddenly collapsed and hit her head, but luckily John and Victoria Sugden found her and she was admitted to hospital.

After her check up, it was revealed that Chas had high levels of codeine in her system – a drug she was prescribed to take after the injury from the Valentine’s limo crash.

In Thursday’s (20th March) episode, Chas pointed the finger at Ella and tried to blame her for the incident. Liam interrogated Ella and asked why she was in the back room of the Woolpack as he questioned: “Just answer the question, what did you do to her?”

Ella attempted to prove her innocence but was soon derailed when Liam found Chas’ engagement ring in her bag. Even her friend Mandy Dingle didn’t believe that she was innocent. Things escalated as the police showed up to arrest her.

However, fans are concerned for the character as they previously theorised that John Sugden is the true mastermind behind Chas’ overdose, as he tries to play the hero and get his future mother-in-law on side.

With rumours circulating that Paula will be leaving the Dales this year, fans were concerned John will cause her to meet an untimely end after Tuesday’s instalment.

On X (formerly known as Twitter), @RyanTheSoapking wrote: “Paula Lane was incredible in tonight’s #Emmerdale btw. I hope she isn’t leaving the show like the rumours suggest. She makes a great addition to the show.”

@jones_emma54777 suggested: “John will blame Ella . Perhaps he will kill Her.” @Gracelandtoo199 added: “Can’t wait for her to find out it wasn’t Ella that messed with her pills.” @krishanmaharaj echoed: “Ella and Chas were great” before questioning whether Ella will “be killed off or leave” in her reported exit.

Emmerdale airs on weekdays at 7:30pm on ITV1 and is available to stream on ITVX.
