Mumbai-based American rock artist Daniel Weber has spent a few years trying to figure out what works for his music in the U.S. and India, as part of hard rock band The Disparrows and as a solo artist as well, backed by a local collective of musicians called The Mumbai Vocal. “It’s a slow and steady process, and it’s been great” he says.
Most recently, he teamed up with arts and culture company Quriosity to carve a deeper path into India’s club touring circuit, with a six-city run of shows that started on Mar. 21 in Mumbai and ends this week, in Bengaluru (Mar. 29) and Hyderabad (Mar. 30).
With previous stops in New Delhi, Gurugram and Pune on the Believe India Tour, Weber considers the West and India’s tour circuit to be “very similar” at this point. “As it is in the west, you do club tours and you build an audience slowly, one person at a time. I’ve toured through Europe. Uh, and I’ve toured the US for 20 years and it’s the same exact thing,” he says.
There’s a hard rock, blues and alternative style to Weber’s music, as heard on his new album Believe. Songs like “Memories” and “Lose Somebody” have taken off on streaming, becoming the breakout tracks from the album. On ground, Weber says the shows have been packed and the “crowds have been amazing.” He’s been playing songs off Believe as well as material written over the span of the last two years, plus a handful of covers.
By his own admission, one of the bigger draws for people in India to come to his shows is his having actor/model Sunny Leone (his wife) promote them. She was at the Mumbai show, of course and Weber considers it a “an added bonus” that Leone’s followers get to know about his music through her. “It’s just another great advantage I have over other people,” he adds.

Weber still insists that people have found his music through several other ways, but is grateful that a recommendation from Leone makes all the difference. “It’s another way to draw in the audience and get them to check out the music,” he adds. He’s realistic about whether or not it will lead to a fanbase. “If they like the music, they’ll come back and they’ll listen. If they don’t like the music, they won’t come back,” Weber adds.
After wrapping up his club tour, Weber promises more shows in April and May in North India, and will later hit a few festivals. There are also “lots of great collaborations” coming up, but nothing Weber can reveal just yet. “But they will be huge,” he adds.
