Coronation Street fans were left divided as they spotted Carla Connor’s move towards Rob Donovan after surviving the gun shot that rang out during an armed siege.

Fans have been eagerly waiting to see Tuesday night’s (March 25) episode of the ITV soap unfold after it was previously revealed that Rob would return to Weatherfield for one last showdown with his sister Carla.

The convicted murderer went on the run after being pushed down the stairs by Carla last month, amid his prison escape plan. He used an opportunity to be a kidney donor to plot his freedom.

But it didn’t go as Rob, who is locked up for the murder of Tina McIntyre, hoped after Carla’s girlfriend DS Lisa Swain tricked him into going through with the operation before he could escape, leading to him and prison officer Mandy kidnapping Carla.

The drama eventually saw Rob use Lisa to get to the abandoned office block where Mandy was waiting with a poorly Carla. He was shocked to find out about Mandy’s pregnancy and realising she had been used, she left.

Rob attempted to follow suit. But Carla found the energy to push her brother down the stairs and a weakened Rob as a result of his surgery saw him fall over the balcony, with Lisa finding him at the bottom and declaring him dead.

But Rob wasn’t dead afterall and he escaped and has been on the run until he showed up on the Street last week and looked to his ex-fiancée Tracy Barlow for help.

After trying to convince Tracy that they could rekindle their former romance and run away together, the florist discovered her ex was armed and dangerous and as she wanted to phone an ambulance as he bled on her dad Ken Barlow’s sofa, he pointed the gun in her face and threatened him.

Rob then demanded that she call his sister Carla. Creating a ruse to make sure Carla headed to No.1, Tracy successfully managed to get Carla to arrive and she was horrified when she did arrive and found a gravely ill

Rob forced Tracy to serve Carla an out-of-date meal of spaghetti on toast. Then, knowing his time was up, Rob, still brandishing the gun, revealed to the Underworld factory boss that his plan was to make her watch him die so that the memories would haunt her forever.

Carla tried her best to talk to him and started discussing memories from their childhood, but Rob seemed intent on going ahead with his plan regardless Distracting him, Tracy seized her chance to escape, raising the alarm with Lisa on the way out.

Angered, Rob threatened to shoot Carla and then himself before they were both surprised by Lisa’s arrival, who couldn’t help but intervene having called the situation in to her colleague DC Kit Green.

Lisa initially did what Rob wanted but it soon became clear she wasn’t willing to wait any longer and made a play for the gun. As she picked it up, she faced it in Rob’s direction and told him to sit down, only for him to laugh in her face.

It ended up in a tussle for the gun before a shot rang out. Armed police quickly stormed the house and despite everything, Carla jumped to protect Rob. With him no longer armed, Kit arrested Rob but that wasn’t the end of the drama as Lisa discovered her daughter Besty had been hit by the rogue bullet.

But it was Carla’s move towards Rob that got Corrie fans talking on social media. @carlasbarlow said: “I might spend the rest of the day crying over carla holding rob’s hand because despite everything he’s still her baby brother.”

But @HemingwayT32173 replied: “I mean her holding Rob hand was ridiculous she didn’t once look where Lisa was for all she knew Lisa could been shot.” @Mari8nick complained: “I’m gonna say it.. acting was great but that was so anticlimactic. Where was the killed in cold blood? Robs alive..Lisa came out unscathed..Carla was more concerned about Rob #swarla #corrie.”

However, @MrsAmyLenton wrote: “Carla protecting Rob from getting shot despite *everything* he’s done. Nobody talk to me, I’m not okay.” @TheConnorSwains shared: “Families are imperfect, complex, messy. Carla and Rob share a deep bond forged through shared childhood trauma. She was always gonna save him if she could! #Swarla #Corrie.”

@charityslimo added: “Carla and Rob’s relationship is so special to me though. despite EVERYTHING she still believes in him, believes he can become a better person, still cares about him like she did when they were kids and wants him well. she raised him. i love them im sorry i do #corrie.”
