Fans have said they ‘can see’ Jenny Connor’s future when it comes to the Rovers Return as it’s all change and the beloved boozer in the ITV soap
Coronation Street fans have said they ‘can see’ Jenny Connor’s future when it comes to the Rovers Return as it’s all change and the beloved boozer.
As fans of the ITV soap know, Jenny has been left penniless after Daisy Midgeley conducted one last scheme before leaving Weatherfield behind.
Viewers will recall that it’s been a turbulent few years for the Rovers as at the end of 2023 and into early 2024, the iconic venue and its staff faced a tumultuous time. The pub experienced a period of closure after landlady Jenny was forced to sell up.
A result of crippling costs amid the Cost of Living crisis, Jenny sold the beloved pub to Newton and Ridley and all seemed well as she was able to continue running the pub with the help of her staff.
However, the jubilation didn’t last long as they discovered Newton and Ridley were being sold to another company, Waterford Incorporated and as a result, they all lost their jobs. With the pub undergoing refurbishment, it was left empty of customers for a while before Daisy Midgeley came up with a cunning plan.
Following serial killer Stephen Reid’s shock death, after some digging, Daisy found Stephen’s journal which was dumped by his mother Audrey Roberts. After studying his notes and scribbles, Daisy figures out the password for the account holding the significant amount of money he had stolen from Carla Connor’s factory, Underworld.
A panicked Jenny didn’t know what to do but Daisy managed to convince her that they should use the hidden lump sum to buy the pub back, but she promised Jenny they’d pay Carla back every penny.
It was then last month that Carla decided action finally needed to be taken and that the Rovers Return needs to be sold for her to recoup her missing cash, which she now needs to give to stepdaughter Betsy Swain after her inheritance from her mum, Becky’s, death was used to pay for her kidney transplant.
Carla broke the news to Jenny that she needs to pay Lisa Swain back and that she’s decided to sell the pub, leaving Jenny shocked. She eventually shared Carla’s demand with Daisy, who found out that Jenny plans to buy the pub back for herself with the money Daisy’s dad invested for her years ago, which had come to fruition.
But rather than confronting Jenny, Daisy signalled her mother Christina Boyd’s return and the pair set about scamming Jenny by catfishing her under the guise of ‘Dom’. But when the man himself appeared, Daisy was thrown. She was also unaware that Christina plans to split the money with ‘Dom’, as she was actually seeing Jenny’s dodgy new fake suitor.
Daisy was later left shocked when she heard Christina talking to Dom in the Rovers’ back yard, realising that her mum was going to double-cross her and set about her own plan to make sure that didn’t happen and it was soon revealed what Christina was up to and she was carted off to the police station.
However, with her mum taking the rap, Daisy hurried her departure from Weatherfield. A heartbroken Jenny said her goodbyes before Christina returned and as they argued it out, the penny dropped for them both and it became clear Daisy had run off with the money Jenny thought she was investing in ‘Dom’.
Jenny was dealt one last blow as Daisy left her nothing, just a goodbye note with a short apology. Then, in one last twist, it was revealed that it wasn’t Brighton she was heading for as she checked her flights from Manchester to Bali.
It’s now in Friday’s (May 9) episode of Corrie that Ryan Connor was left tentatively explaining to Jenny that she’s no longer his boss and he takes his orders from Carla now. Jenny’s upset was upset and trying to help, Glenda, as she showed some prospective buyers around the pub, attempted to put them off.
It’s already been confirmed that next week in the soap, Carla promotes Glenda to manager of the Rovers, while a dejected Jenny packs up her things and moves in with Rita Tanner.
But Corrie fans think it might not be the end of Jenny in the Rovers, while others are adamant that Eva Price will be making a return to swoop in a takeover the pub, following reports of a return for actress Catherine Tyldesley.
In a Corrie fan Facebook group, one said: “I can see Jenny ending up back as Rovers landlady, somehow, anyone else?” Another commented: “Jenny will return.”
But a third suggested: “Nope, Eva has brought the pub, she’s coming back, expect she’ll keep Jenny on though.” A fourth echoed: “I think it’s Eva.” Another added: “Eva will buy the pub.”
